Meet Our Director

Hello! My name is Chase Woods, I am from Huntsville, AL, and a former wheelchair basketball player. I was diagnosed at birth with Muscular Dystrophy, which means that my muscles deteriorate over time. I always envisioned myself competing on a team, making big plays, and being captain on a team, but could never keep up with the other kids. Having a disability made me feel excluded, and in turn I became an isolated and shy person. Then one day I finally got the opportunity to live my dream and it came in the form of wheelchair basketball. This gave me the opportunity to do something I never thought possible and changed my life. It brought me out of my isolation and shyness, showing me that my disability does not limit me. I played three seasons in the NWBA Varsity Division and made three straight appearances in the NWBA NIT. Because of the weakening of my muscles, I no longer am playing, but now coaching. As a coach, I had a gold medal finish in the first Alabama State Games 3v3 wheelchair basketball tournament in 2019, a silver medal finish at the first 3v3 to be hosted by the University of Alabama Adapted Athletics also coming in 2019. I also had a brief stint as an assistant with a varsity team out of Nashville, TN in 2021. As director and head basketball coach, my goal is to help disabled athletes reach their full potential and accomplish their goals on the court as well as off the court. Blastoff!
